With respect to anxiety disorders and PTSD, the abundant expression of the GHSR and GHSR mRNA on/in midbrain dopamine neurons of the VTA (Zigman et al., 2006; Mani et al., 2014) is particularly interesting (Figure 1), as accumulating evidence suggests midbrain dopaminergic signaling as an important player in fear extinction (Abraham et al., 2014; Kalisch et al., 2019). The gene discussed is GHSR; the disease is post-traumatic stress disorder.
