CAPE, which had previously been described as an effective inhibitor of NF-κB-dependent expression of Gal-7 in breast cancer cells [32], was applied to Gal-1/-3/-8-treated OA chondrocyte pellets and, in this model, led to a strong reduction of signs of disease progression, i.e., ECM breakdown and biomarker expression. This evidence concerns the gene SMC2 and breast cancer.
