In order to determine whether IFN signaling via the cGAS/STING pathway is generally employed by C. acnes to stimulate an IFN-I response independently of the phylotype, we performed infection experiments with C. acnes strain Asn12, the most potent IFN-I inducer (Figure 2C), in cells lacking either cGAS or STING.
