However, in this study, we provide initial evidence that a high dietary n-6 linoleic acid (LA, 18:2n-6) or oral gavage of its metabolite n-6 docosapentaenoic acid (DPAn-6, 22:5n-6) actually promote resolution of neuroinflammation, suppressing microglia activation and cyclooxygenases (COXs), and improving indices of apoptotic neurodegeneration and the neuroprotective VGF pathway implicated in neurons in Alzheimer's disease (AD) model 5xFAD/APOE mice, including E3FAD and E4FAD mice.
