GRIA1 and schizophrenia: This finding also relates back to schizophrenia in general, because variants of the locus of the GluA1-encoding gene GRIA1 have been associated with increased risk for schizophrenia (Schizophrenia Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium, 2014), and GluA1-mRNA expression is reduced in the CA3-region of SCZ patients (Eastwood et al., 1995).
