Plagl1 knockdown in the human trophoblast cells shows altered expression of Oas1 and Polr2g, which are misexpressed in placentas from women with GDM, in the direction that would be predicted by PLAGL1 overexpression (downregulated and upregulated, respectively), suggesting a functional role for PLAGL1 in GDM-induced placental dysfunction [78]. Here, PLAGL1 is linked to gestational diabetes.
