ADIPOQ and Insulin resistance: Pioglitazone, thiazolidinedione (TZDs) derivative is a hypoglycemic agents which acts as a ligand for nuclear peroxisome proliferator–activated receptors-γ (PPAR-γ) [4] in adipose tissue, and is used therapeutically to ameliorate insulin resistance through activation of PPAR-γ receptor, thus results in increased adiponectin levels and number of small adipocytes leading to enhanced insulin sensitivity [5], increased AMPK activation and lessening gluconeogenesis in liver [6].
