Christ et al have recently described that a 4-week period of Western-type diet feeding in atherosclerosis prone Ldlr-/-mice induced a functional, transcriptional and epigenetic reprogramming of circulating myeloid cells and their bone marrow progenitors, which persisted for at least for weeks after switching back to a chow diet (Christ et al., 2018). The gene discussed is LDLR; the disease is atherosclerosis.
