CLOCK and viral infectious disease: More recently, a disrupted circadian clock has been linked to increasing susceptibility to several pathogen-associated diseases (Bellet et al., 2013; Kiessling et al., 2017; Hopwood et al., 2018; T. Li et al., 2019; Diallo et al., 2020; Kitchen et al., 2020), and the interplay between viral infections and the circadian clock is of increasing interest with an expansion of work in this area (Zhuang et al., 2017; Mazzoccoli et al., 2020).
