Various genetic variants, including complement factor (CF)H and CFH-related genes [80,81]; complement protein (C)3 and C9 [82,83]; age-related maculopathy susceptibility (ARMS)2 gene [84]; and the VEGF and VEGF receptor (VEGFR) axis [85,86] are involved in AMD pathogenesis. This evidence concerns the gene VEGFA and age-related macular degeneration.
