In support of the deleterious effect of cancer-derived exosomes, Kanlikilicer et al. unveiled a resistance mechanism to paclitaxel in ovarian cancer based on the exosomal transfer of oncogenic miR-1246 to M2-type macrophages, which results in the upregulation of multidrug resistance protein 1 (also called p-gp, MDR1 or ABCB1) [125].
