Interestingly, BAG3 is predominantly expressed in the heart and skeletal muscle cells and mutations in the BAG3 gene are associated with different variants of cardiomyopathies such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) and DCM or protein aggregation diseases such as MFM [8–10, 15]. This evidence concerns the gene BAG3 and familial dilated cardiomyopathy.
