p-4E and p-4E-BP1 (S65/T70) are highly elevated in many types of cancers including CRC (Truitt and Ruggero, 2016; Martineau et al., 2013; Fan et al., 2009), while their mRNA or total protein levels do not increase significantly in the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) CRC cohort (n = 640) (Figure 1—figure supplement 1A).
