Even for severely ill patients, the injuries or symptoms in the ACE2-high organs such as the kidney and intestinal tract are relatively uncommon, with a rate of 1%–4.3% for acute kidney injury (Guan et al., 2020; Wang et al., 2020) and a rate of 3.5%–5.8% for intestinal symptoms (Guan et al., 2020; Special Expert Group for Control of the Epidemic of Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia of the Chinese Preventive Medicine, 2020). This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and acute kidney injury.
