The gene Zfp69, uniquely expressed in SJL and repressed in NZO due to the presence of a retrotransposon, is located on chromosome 4 at approximately 121 Mbp and was previously investigated as a T2D candidate, but does not account for islet dysfunction and β-cell loss (Scherneck et al., 2009; Chung et al., 2015). This evidence concerns the gene ZFP69 and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
