These results corroborate numerous studies suggesting the major antimicrobial role of iron deficiency in EW (Garibaldi, 1970; Lock and Board, 1992; Baron et al., 1997) and highlight the role of Fur in mediating the response of S. Enteritidis to poor iron availability (Kang et al., 2006; Baron et al., 2017; Huang et al., 2019; Qin et al., 2019). The gene discussed is FURIN; the disease is nutritional disorder.
