Luteolin is protective against diabetes-induced progression of retinopathy and reportedly inhibits expressions of the inflammation-related markers NF-κB and IL-1β, decreases levels of the lipid peroxidation product malondialdehyde (MDA), and increases the antioxidant glutathione (GSH) in diabetes-induced oxidative stress in the retina [34].
