SNAI1 and cancer: The EMT process is orchestrated by a suite of transcriptions factors (EMT-TFs) including Snai1 (Snail), Snai2 (Slug), Zeb1, Zeb2, and Twist.12,14 These TFs also happen to be actively utilized by stem cells and progenitor cells during embryonic development, but has later be shown to occur very commonly in human cancers including PDAC.15,16 Instead of full EMT, most cancer cells undergo various degrees and different phenotypic versions of “partial” EMT, usually in response to environmental clues, to adapt and survive.
