Although both short sleep duration and sleep quality have been associated with disease severity and insulin resistance in NAFLD,12 the use of sleeping pills, regardless of the drug type, has been shown to improve sleep quality and extend sleeping time.27–31 On other hand, ramelteon, which is a melatonin receptor agonist, may be beneficial for NAFLD by repairing the circadian rhythm, which is associated with glucose metabolism and insulin sensitivity.32 The effect of sleeping pills for preventing NAFLD may be worth examining. The gene discussed is INS; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
