Another approach for large gene sizes has been applied for Duchenne muscular dystrophy caused by the dystrophin gene (DMD) mutations (11 kb-long coding sequence where shorter synthetic dystrophin versions, known as microdystrophins, have been developed, allowing transduction by AAV vectors (Duan, 2018; Le Guiner et al., 2017). Here, DMD is linked to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
