An example of human HMOX1 deficiency was found in a 6-year-old boy suffering from growth retardation, anemia, leukocytosis, thrombocytosis, coagulation abnormalities, and hyperlipidemia (Kawashima et al., 2002), indicating an important role of HMOX1 in human health. Here, HMOX1 is linked to thrombocytosis disease.
