BRCA2 and neoplasm: Hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) is a genetic tumor syndrome most commonly caused by germline deleterious mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2. The BRCA1 and BRCA2 tumor suppressor genes (chromosome 17q21 and 13q12.3, respectively) (1–6) encode for proteins involved in DNA double strand break repair by homologous recombination, one of the critical maintenance mechanisms of DNA integrity (7).
