It has been shown that HmgB1 is involved in many inflammatory processes, where it acts according to more or less the same principle: the protein enters to the extracellular space, activating inflammatory cascades through its receptors (questions about the effect of the HmgB1 protein on inflammatory processes, oncological, cardiovascular, and neurodegenerative diseases and other pathologies are discussed in more detail in reviews [52,152,153]). Here, HMGB1 is linked to neurodegenerative disease.
