The different effects of FAAH vs. NAAA inhibition are presumably due to the relative expression of the two enzymes in the different tissues (not least in inflammation models given the high expression of NAAA in macrophages [27]), although in interferon-γ-treated human T84 colon carcinoma cells, PEA levels are increased to a greater extent with URB597 than with the NAAA inhibitor pentadecylamine, despite the fact that the expression at the level of mRNA of NAAA is slightly greater than that of FAAH [34].
