Interestingly, it has been shown that the presence of genetically determined fatty liver (by using a genetic risk score including PNPLA3, TM6SF2, GCKR and MBOAT7 variants) was causally associated with greater insulin resistance, as estimated by HOMA‐IR, in individuals at risk of progressive liver disease (ie those with suspected NASH or severe obesity), but not in the general population.89 This evidence concerns the gene GCKR and Insulin resistance.
