This association remained significant after adjustment for age, sex, race, education, household annual income, smoking status, BMI, HbA1c in quartiles, and chronic conditions including HF, stroke, DR, and CHD, and medication use, including glucose-lowering drugs and insulin use (OR = 1.57, 95% CI: 1.13–1.87; Table 2).
