It can be easily assumed that HMGB1 can have same role in COVID-19 especially that some drugs that target HMGB1 such as chloroquine, can prevent septic shock through inhibition of HMGB1 (Yang et al., 2013), inhibit SARS-CoV-2 replication/infection in vitro (Wang M. et al., 2020) and meanwhile proved some clinical efficacy in some trials (Gao J. et al., 2020).
