The authors are aware that further in-depth studies are needed to assess the anti-inflammatory properties of sulfonamide-based analogs of metformin, and their effects on NF-κB activity, especially in view of the fact that metformin was found to inhibit of the expression of NF-κB gene, reduce inflammation and eliminate the susceptibility to common diseases such as cancer or atherosclerosis [50].
