This possibility is underlined by the observation that delayed rectifier currents were markedly reduced in medium- and large-, but not in small diameter DRG neurons in a rodent model of painful diabetic neuropathy but the mRNA levels for Kv1.1, Kv1.2, Kv2.1, and Kv2.2 were unchanged (Cao et al., 2010). The gene discussed is KCNA1; the disease is diabetic neuropathy.
