In the analyses restricted to women with a first-degree relative with breast cancer, the risk increased to an OR of 1.62 (1.09–2.39) for women at the highest IGF-1 quintile and OR = 1.35 (0.92–1.99) for the highest IGFBP-3 quintile, further supporting the hypothesis that family history may be an important modifier [2]. The gene discussed is IGFBP3; the disease is breast cancer.
