Levels of high molecular weight adiponectin, a hormone linked to insulin-sensitisation [41], were decreased in Phospho1−/− mice fed either a CD (2.62-fold) or a HFD (1.92-fold) (both p < 0.001) suggesting that insulin sensitivity and protection from obesity are independent of adiponectin (Fig. 4a). The gene discussed is PHOSPHO1; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
