The treatment scheme was based on unpublished in vitro and in vivo (subcutaneous xenografted mouse) work on high-grade glioma cell lines where daily repeated doses of rapamycin was inhibiting mTorc1 constantly and dose spacing of irinotecan every 2 or 5 days was able to inhibit profoundly HIF-1α protein expression. Here, HIF1A is linked to central nervous system cancer.
