In gastric cancer it is clear that FOXO1 functions to inhibit angiogenesis, and gastric carcinomas with pFOXO1 (inactive proteoform) are associated with higher expression of angiogenic drivers such as HIF1α and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) (Kim et al., 2011; Kim S.
