AFP and cirrhosis of liver: From this study, we can conclude that global DNA 5′-methylcytosine% does not differ in HCV-infected cirrhotic patients and HCC patients compared with normal controls, denoting that the chronic HCV inflammatory process itself could not influence the global DNA methylation status and there was any correlation between age, AFP, HCV viral load, or Child-Pugh class in the studied patients and 5′-methylcytosine%; consecutively, we had concluded that there was no impact of 5′-methylcytosine% on development of liver cirrhosis or HCC.
