PI3K/Akt/mTOR axis has been classified as one of the most frequently activated pathways in cancer and Akt is found frequently upregulated in tumor cells to resist cell stress and apoptosis; particularly, an upregulation of Akt2 has been associated with aggressiveness and poor prognosis in ovarian, breast, colorectal, and pancreatic cancers [258]. The gene discussed is AKT1; the disease is familial pancreatic carcinoma.
