Abnormal functioning of the mTOR pathway may contribute to the pathogenesis of some solid tumors, especially renal cell carcinoma (RCC).[1] The mTOR is the molecular target for small molecule inhibitors (i.e., temsirolimus and everolimus), which have demonstrated significant clinical activity in patients with advanced RCC. The gene discussed is MTOR; the disease is hereditary clear cell renal cell carcinoma.
