ILK and Marfan syndrome: To name a few, loss of elastic fiber integrity in a mouse model of Marfan syndrome associates with reduced vasoconstrictive capability [52]; loss of elastic fiber integrity also alters the micro-properties [53] and undulation [87] of the neighboring collagen fibers; deletion of integrin linked kinase alters smooth muscle contractile protein expression, not just cell-matrix interactions [88]; and disruption of fibulin-4, an elastin associated glycoprotein, leads to changes in collagen synthesis and maturation [54] as well as cytoskeletal actin [83,89].
