Urate transporters in the kidney, such as urate transporter 1 (URAT1), glucose transporter 9 (GLUT9), urate transporter 1 (OAT1), and organic anion transporter 3 (OAT3), may have essential roles in impaired urate excretion and the resulting hyperuricaemia [6–8]. The gene discussed is SLC22A8; the disease is hyperuricemia.
