In patients with COPD and asthma, although there is still very little scientific evidence, the treatment with inhaled glucocorticoids (IGC) could have a “protective effect” against COVID-19 since they may decrease the expression of the ACE2 receptor genes and the TMPRSS2 transmembrane protease genes, both key for the virus to enter cells and make copies of itself [25]. This evidence concerns the gene TMPRSS2 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
