Thus, the detection of a CM-H2DCFDA signal in our study may support a different mechanism of Aβ1-40-induced RPE oxidative stress due to H2O2 produced by the p22phox-NOX4 heterodimer, suggesting that Aβ1-40-induced RPE degeneration is a more reasonable model of AMD-like RPE damage than RPE injured by H2O2 incubation. This evidence concerns the gene CYBA and age-related macular degeneration.
