These results support earlier work that also questioned, based on immunohistochemical staining of human nevi for markers including lysosomal β-galactosidase, Ki67, p16INK4a (CDKN2A), γ-H2AX and p53, whether nevus melanocytes should be considered senescent (Tran et al., 2012).
