This is evidenced by studies in swine showing that attenuation of burn- and trauma-induced AKI by oral resuscitation and vitamin C is associated with a reduction of serum levels of CXCL-8/IL-8 [57,58] and that mitigation of I/R-induced AKI by inhibiting complement pathway is associated with decrease of infiltration of CD163+ M2 macrophages into the kidney [59].
