Significantly, “Group III” HBV-related HCCs, in comparison to the “Rest”, exhibited increased expression of miR106b~25 and miR17~92 and reduced levels of DDX5 mRNA (Figure 2D). Considering that miRNAs act by reducing either mRNA stability or translation of their targets, these clinical data strongly suggest an inverse correlation between high expression of miR106b~25 and miR17~92 vs. reduced DDX5 levels (Figure S2D), and, in turn, tumor aggressiveness.
