As a matter of fact, CXCL10 is not the only pro-inflammatory molecule expressed by alpha-cells; indeed, it has been reported that alpha-cells can express also IL-1β (46) as well as IL-6 (47), thus potentially contributing to the pro-inflammatory islet microenvironment causing preferential homing of T-lymphocytes in pancreas in T1D (48). This evidence concerns the gene CXCL10 and type 1 diabetes mellitus.
