Although paediatric NAFLD shows some different characteristic as compared to adults patients, such as histological features and progression rate to hepatic cirrhosis or HCC, they also show large overlap as both are associated with the metabolic syndrome, central obesity, dysregulated glucose metabolism, dyslipidemia, cardiovascular diseases and have similar genetic risk factors (eg PNPLA3 and GCKR).25 This evidence concerns the gene GCKR and Cirrhosis.
