We also found altered DNA methylation in patients with hypercholesterolemia, in key genes associated with fatty acid transport and metabolism (hypomethylated: PPARD, PPARG, SLC27A1, SLC27A3 and SLC25A20, and hypermethylated: ANGPTL4, ACLS6, ACADM and CPT1A). Here, SLC27A3 is linked to familial hypercholesterolemia.
