Since the discovery of the activating mutation in the epidermal growth factor receptors (EGFR) kinase domain in a subset of patients with NSCLC, accounting for 17% of cases in North America and Europe and 50% of cases in Asia, EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) were perceived as an attractive treatment intervention with a 65–90% response rate  (Brehmer et al., 2005; Ladanyi & Pao, 2008). Here, EGFR is linked to non-small cell lung carcinoma.
