Table 1 presents the differences in characteristics between the groups. There were no statistical differences between groups regarding gender and age, whereas participants with NAFLD had higher BMI, WC, triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), UA, HbA1c, HOMA-IR, ALT, and AST but had lower high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) compared to those with non-NAFLD (all P < 0.05). The prevalence of AGT was also higher in the NAFLD group (70.5 vs. 54.5%, P = 0.006). The gene discussed is AGT; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
