ABCC1 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease: Inhibition of MRP1 was observed to worsen cigarette smoke extract (CSE)-induced cytotoxicity in vitro (van der Deen et al., 2007) and pre-clinical and clinical data suggest that changes in abundance (van der Deen et al., 2006; Wu et al., 2019) or function (Budulac et al., 2010) of the transporter are associated with occurrence and severity of COPD.
