The fact that STAg failed to recapitulate the effects of live infection does not exclude that soluble factors are linked to MNK1/2-eIF4E dephosphorylation but rather that certain events are required for these factors to mediate their effects within the host cell (e.g., formation and presence of the parasitophorous vacuole membrane, specific route of entry of these molecules, etc.). Here, MKNK1 is linked to infection.
